Jens Geginat graduated in Biochemistry at the Free University Berlin in Germany in 1994. In 1995 he started his Ph.D at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, Italy in the group of Ruggero Pardi. In 1999 he began his post-doctoral work in the group of Antonio Lanzavecchia in Switzerland at the Basel Institute for Immunology. In 2000 he moved to the IRB in Bellinzona, where he became an independent Scientist in 2003. From 2006-2010 he was a Junior Group Leader at the DRFZ headed by Andreas Radbruch at the Charité University in Berlin in Germany. Jens Geginat is an internationally recognized expert in the field of rare human immune cell subsets, in particular of CD4+ T-cell subsets, but also of dendritic cells (DC). He has done original contributions to the characterization of central memory and effector memory T-cells. His group has also performed pioneering work on the function of IL-10 producing helper and regulatory T-cells in human tissues. His current work focuses on the balance of Th17- and regulatory T-cells in different human immune-mediated diseases, and on the regulation of cytotoxic T-cell responses in tumors by IL-10.
